Noah (2014)

Noah (Russell Crowe) is chosen by God to build an ark. He does so with the help of his family, who believe in him and the prophecy that there will be an apocalyptic flood that will destroy the Earth. “Noah” Website

What to Watch For: The film has an impressive cast including Jennifer Connelly, Anthony Hopkins, and Nick Nolte

Word on the Street: The film is said to very dark in its tone. Will that keep church groups from going?

My Take: “Black Swan” (2010) director Darren Aronofsky, seems an odd choice to helm such a big budget, special effects laden picture.

Sabotage (2014)

John “Breacher” Wharton (Arnold Schwarzenegger) leads an elite DEA task force that has a high rate of success. Now Breacher’s team members are being assassinated one by one, and he must find out who is behind the plot before it’s too late. “Sabotage” Website

What to Watch For: Another film in Schwarzenegger’s comeback career. This should give the audience what it wants in his movies, lots of action and lots of guns.

Word on the Street: Hollywood insiders are wondering how much longer Schwarzenegger can make these types of films.

My Take: A couple of my favorite TV actors are in this film: Joe Manganiello (“True Blood”) and Josh Holloway (“Lost”).

Cesar Chavez

Cesar Chavez (2014)

A biography of the civil-rights activist Cesar Chavez (Michael Pena) who, in the late sixties and early seventies organized farm laborers into unions. “Cesar Chavez” Website

What to Watch For: Michael Pena is getting great reviews from critics for his role in the film.

Word on the Street: America Ferrera is also being praised for her work on the film as Chavez’s wife.

My Take: Michael Pena always gives such great and understated performances.

The Lunchbox

The Lunchbox (2013)

Mumbai businessmen get their lunch by means of a world famous delivery system. It’s a system so efficient, it only wrongly delivers one lunch out of a million. But, when unhappy housewife Ila’s (Nimrat Kaur) lunch for her husband is mistakenly delivered to widower Saajan (Irrfan Khan), it starts a chain of events that will change their lives. “The Lunchbox” Website

What to Watch For: The film has won a number of awards at film festivals around the world.

Word on the Street: Film critics are heaping praise on this film that started out as a documentary on the delivery system known as dabbawalla.

My Take: The trailer for this film makes it seem almost magical.

If you can’t make it to the theatre this weekend, stay at home and watch movies on CW69.
