Johnny Manziel Showcases Heisman Talent vs. Sam Houston State

Hate him or love him, Johnny Manziel has “it.”

Manziel, other than a certain defender from South Carolina, is the name most associated with the Heisman Trophy. He did little to hurt the argument against his chances with voters against Sam Houston State in Week 2, leading Texas A&M to a 65-28 victory with relative ease.

It’s hard to classify 400 yards passing on 28 completions and three scores as easy, but Johnny Football is smooth.

Not only does Manziel have the awareness, technique and overall talent to be called the nation’s best player, he’s the type of elite talent who makes those better around him as well.

The only negative here in Manziel’s performance is the level of competition. After sitting out a half in Week 1, Manziel came in and tossed three touchdowns against a weak Rice squad. The Sam Houston State Bearkats of the Southland division are not exactly top-tier opposition either.

Manziel Heisman doubters can rest assured the cake walk for the Heisman trophy is over. Next week No. 1 Alabama and Nick Saban come to town, which will be the ultimate test and the barometer most voters use to judge whether or not Maziel is worthy of the prestigious award.

For now Manziel can bask in the good feelings of a strong performance against Sam Houston State. He’s the Heisman front-runner whether fans like it or not, and his pretty display of passing week in and out only reinforce that fact.

Until a team can find a way to stop Manziel, the Heisman is all but assured to reside in College Station.
