Bernard Pierce's Long-Term Fantasy Value After Ray Rice's Injury

Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice sustained an injury in the team’s Week 2 contest against the Cleveland Browns that may have a lasting impact on the fantasy football world and backup Bernard Pierce.

According to the team’s official Twitter account, Rice went down with a non-contact injury and immediately left the field with the medial staff:

Pierce’s fantasy stock went through the roof after the injury.

The fake football realm was already high on Pierce to begin with, especially as one of the league’s favorite handcuffs. Pierce rumbled for over 500 yards last year on just over 100 carries, creating speculation that he’d steal more from Rice this year.

That notion is even more based in reality now that Rice is out with an unknown injury. Pierce is an every-down back who could push for a starting job on most rosters, so he’s immediate elevated to at least a No. 2 option in all fantasy leagues.

Owners who handcuffed Pierce behind Rice are in the clear. Those who didn’t need to scramble for an answer, and even owners without Rice would be wise to make a play for Pierce at this point while his stock is still somewhat low.
